Philip Scrase Honoured with Life Membership Trophy

In a heartfelt moment at Alton Runners’ Christmas party, the club awarded Philip Scrase the prestigious Life Member Trophy in recognition of his outstanding contributions over the past 15-years. The current chairperson, Jim Armitage, presented the trophy to Philip during the festive celebration, offering a fitting memento to honour his dedication and service to the club.

This accolade comes in the same year that Philip was recognised on a larger stage, winning the Services to Athletics and Running Award at the England Athletics Volunteer Awards Evening 2024: South East. The dual honours underscore his tireless commitment to the sport and his impact on the local running community.

Philip has been a cornerstone of Alton Runners, holding various key roles on the Committee, including Race Director and Chairperson - a position he held for over 10-years. Beyond his leadership roles, Philip has been an invaluable part of the coaching team, sharing his expertise and passion to inspire runners of all levels.

As Philip prepares to relocate to Derbyshire, Alton Runners ensured his departure wouldn’t go unnoticed. Club member George Longland captured the sentiment of many with her heartfelt words: “You are a life-long hero to so many of us, and I wish you oodles of thanks and love for your unending support to the club, to individuals, and to the sport itself. You’re a bloody incredible human.”

The Christmas party provided the perfect occasion to celebrate Philip’s achievements, offering a moment to reflect on his incredible legacy. The Life Member Trophy now stands as a lasting symbol of the immense gratitude and respect he has earned from his peers.

Wishing Philip the very best in his new chapter, Alton Runners express their heartfelt thanks for his many years of dedication, friendship, and leadership. With accolades from both his club and the wider athletics community, Philip departs as an extraordinary ambassador for the sport. The roads and trails of Derbyshire are gaining an exceptional runner and mentor.
